Oath of the moment

Over on the Something Awful Forums they've begun another of the yearly "Oath" threads, where members pledge to paint a certain amount of miniatures every month for a chance to win regular spot prizes and a selection of impressive grand prizes.

Triple threat triad territory
This year they've opened it up to submissions from all game/miniature lines (previously it was limited to Games Workshop figures), so I have thrown my hat into the ring and pledged to paint the bare minimum of three figures per month.  This month, it's another Ghulam trooper, a Ghulam hacker, and a cute little Nasmat remote.

Ghulam trooper, base coats.

The prizes aren't just handed out for the best painted figures, the emphasis is also on getting things completed to an acceptable standard*.  Anyone that completes their month's oath will be eligible for one of the randomly-drawn monthly prizes, which include Infinity blisters donated by Corvus Belli (only one Haqqislam figure though).

Ghulam hacker, base coats. Dude has a great hat.

This isn't the first Oath Thread I've participated in, but I had a bad habit of rapidly burning out - probably due to the fact I was painting Tyranids with a bad habit of spending far too much time on single Gaunt models.  I did win a prize for a diorama I made specifically for the 2010 thread, which I'll write about in a future blog post**.

First coat of orange over the red/brown

With the minimum oath amount being three 28mm miniatures, my focus is on painting my Haqqislam troopers at a regular rate.  There's a "special ingredient" every month that is worth extra points if included (this month's is "Battle Damage"), but unless it's something easy or thematic to include, I think I'll be ignoring it to concentrate on painting.

Namsat Remote, base coat then first orange coat. I love this little guy!

I was thinking of adding some scratched paint to the Namsat, but the figure is too small for it to be worth it, especially as I'm not using any metallic colors.  It'll have to wait till I pick up a TAG.

Does.. he have a dong on his back?

Some might be scoffing at the idea that painting a measley three figures in a month could ever be a problem problem, but I usually can only paint one day a week, and I'm a slow painter at the best of times.  Three per month is enough!

* Of course, everyone's idea of "acceptable" varies, but it trends towards the high end of the spectrum.
** Probably when I get bored of talking about the color orange.
